Techniquest in Cardiff Bay welcomes visitors throughout the year.

Opening hours:

10am-5pm on weekends and bank holidays, and seven days a week during local school holidays.

9.30am-4.30pm on weekdays during local school term time (Tuesday – Friday only).

We are closed on Mondays during school term time, but open on Bank Holiday Mondays and on Mondays during local school holidays.

We will be closed for essential maintenance from Wednesday 3 to Friday 5 September inclusive.

  • How to get to Techniquest

    By train:

    There are regular train services from Cardiff Queen Street to Cardiff Bay Station – Techniquest is just a 5 minute walk from Cardiff Bay Station.

    By bus:

    Take the regular 'Baycar' service number 6 from the city centre, or the number 8 from Heath Hospital or the city centre.

    By bike:

    We provide facilities for bicycle storage at the side of the building. Techniquest cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage to bicycles that are stored here.

    By car/coach:

    From outside Cardiff:

    Leave M4 at junction 33 and follow brown signs for Cardiff Bay on the A4232 dual carriageway.

    From within Cardiff:

    Follow signs from city centre to Cardiff Bay and then the brown signs for Techniquest.

    Parking

    There are pay-and-display car parks opposite Techniquest in Mermaid Quay, and in Havannah Street, behind the building.

    Busy Techniqest exhibition area*Techniquest is a registered charity and admission prices includes a voluntary donation of approximately ten per cent. This enables Techniquest to claim Gift Aid on 100% of the admission charge. All money raised goes towards supporting Techniquest and its aim to make science accessible to everyone.

    Add a visit to the amazing digital Planetarium for an extra cost of just £1.30 per person.

    We accept Mastercard, Visa and Switch cards. Tesco Deals Tokens can be used to pay for full-priced (including donations) adults (£7), concessions (£5) and children’s (£5) entry. Tesco Deals Tokens are not valid for tickets which are already discounted e.g. Family Group admission, pre-booked groups or for Friends of Techniquest membership.

    Unfortunately, Techniquest and Cafe Quest are not able to accept personal cheques.

    Pneumatic dragon at Techniquest

    Techniquest is a leading interactive science discovery centre in the heart of Cardiff Bay.

    There are more than 120 hands-on exhibits, from an iconic giant pneumatic dragon to chunky puzzles, all waiting to be pulled, pushed and prodded!

    The Science Theatre hosts a programme of exciting shows for families at weekends and during holidays, and for schools groups during term-time.

    Experience the stars as never before in the amazing digital Planetarium. Gaze at the night sky whatever the time of day or weather, and learn about the constellations and some of the myths that surround them.

    Our Place in Space show at Techniquest Planetarium

    There's something to keep everyone happy for a couple of hours or more... stop for lunch, and find gifts, books and science kits at the Techniquest shop.

    There is easy wheelchair access, including a lift, to all parts of the building as well as a disabled toilet. The hearing loop systems in our Science Theatre and Planetarium help those who use a hearing aid or loop listener. A Portable Induction Loop is also available for use at our Admissions Desk or in the shop and cafe.

  • Information for disabled visitors

    At Techniquest, we pride ourselves on offering a warm, welcoming environment to all of our visitors. Our friendly staff are always on hand to provide assistance and to offer support for the varying needs of all visitors.     Wheelchair access

    Access at the main entrance to the centre is completely level. There is easy wheelchair access, including a lift, to all parts of the building as well as a disabled toilet on each floor. We also have a limited number of wheelchairs which are available to borrow while you visit — just ask when you arrive.

    Essential carers visit free

    All essential carers of disabled visitors get FREE admission to Techniquest. Please just bring along a form of ID to process your admission on arrival.

    Pacemakers and implanted medical devices

    No Pacemaker

    A small number of Techniquest exhibits are not suitable for use by anyone with a pacemaker or other implanted medical device. They are indicated by the symbol (left) on the exhibit label. Please ask one of our Helpers for more information.

    Hearing loop systems

    The hearing loop systems in our Science Theatre and Planetarium help those who use a hearing aid or loop listener. A Portable Induction Loop is also available for use at our Admissions Desk or in the shop and cafe.
