Key Stage 2

Two children experimenting with a Techniquest exhibitAll KS2 programmes support the teaching of the Curriculum for Wales, encouraging skills development and learning through investigation, discussion and collaboration.

After a lively 30-minute presentation in the Science Theatre or Planetarium, pupils take what they have learnt onto the exhibition floor for a session of self-directed learning and discovery. Pupils are armed with a series of key words and phrases that link to the topics of their show, to help them to decide which of the 120 interactive exhibits are most relevant.

All Techniquest’s hands-on exhibits encourage self-directed learning.

Teachers are provided with digital cameras to record their pupils’ experiences. Techniquest downloads these images onto a memory stick – which includes resource materials to extend the learning experience.

Planetarium

Enter Techniquest’s new digital Planetarium and take a journey through the Universe – discovering stars, planets and distant galaxies!

Each Planetarium show comprises a 20 minute video, that supports the teaching of the Curriculum for Wales, followed by a live tour of the night sky.

Pupils learn to identify stars, planets and constellations that can be seen from Earth, then venture beyond the Milky Way, towards the great wonders of the Universe. Presenters can zoom into stars and planets, pan out to detailed craters of distant moons, and display stunning phenomena such as spiralling galaxies, in order to consolidate and contextualise pupils’ learning appropriately and fuel a passion for cosmology and astronomy.

Each show is tailored to the age, ability and level of knowledge of the pupils. Techniquest’s presenter will ask questions in order to encourage engagement, thought and suggestions, allowing pupils’ decisions to influence the direction of the star tour.
