Reach the Heights Joint Sponsors

Group of schoolchildren working at a Reach the Heights workshopTechniquest is a joint sponsor in a £49m new initiative for young people in Wales, called Reach the Heights, which is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) with match funding from the Welsh Assembly Government and associated sponsors. As part of this scheme, Techniquest will be developing and delivering STEM programmes through seven regional Hubs in the convergence areas across Wales for 11 – 19 year olds who face or who are at risk of disadvantage or under-achievement, to improve their career opportunities.

‘Reach the Heights’ is part financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) and is part of the Convergence Programme for west Wales and the Valleys. Around £27 million pounds of ESF money will be made available over the life of the projects, with the rest coming from the Welsh Assembly Government, the Joint Sponsors and (in a few cases) the organisations carrying out the activities.

The Welsh Assembly Government, working with a range of outside bodies, will fund activities aimed at 11-19 year olds with the help of the European Social Fund (ESF).

‘Reach the Heights’ includes two projects to provide help and new opportunities to young people.

‘First Footholds’ will work with some of Wales’ most disadvantaged young people to help them defeat some of the barriers they face.

‘Routes to the Summit’ will aim to raise the skills and aspirations of young people so that they can make better progress in education and training and move more easily into work or higher education.
