Stardust: Cosmic ChemistryTuesday 12 June 2012 This breathtaking show covers elements of the chemistry, physics and biology syllabuses. Beginning with a stunningly beautiful full dome video that explores the amazing journey of the elements from the stars to our own bodies, pupils then examine the structure of the atom by watching how the simplest elements formed in the Big Bang. Pupils will watch the birth and death of stars and see how fusion reacts in them and create new elements that are blown across space by powerful explosions. They will also look at the formation and structure of the Earth, the Milky Way and the Universe, the difference between elements and compounds and how elements are recycled through the earth. The second part of the show is an interactive using the full dome digital Planetarium projector that can show deep space objects, planets and constellation images. Pupils will discover how to use well known constellations to find phenomena such as red giant stars, stellar nurseries and nebulae in the night sky.
