MSc
The Cardiff University MSc in Science, Media and Communication is an innovative collaboration between the Cardiff School of Social Sciences, the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies, and Techniquest. The one-year, full-time course provides students with an interdisciplinary approach to science communication. It develops strong theoretical skills, but also includes key practical skills with students learning how to present Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) in different contexts to different audiences.
Students undertake 6 Modules, two of which are taught at Techniquest. The Techniquest Modules are Visitor Studies, a core module, and Presenting Science, an optional module, taught by Techniquest’s Presenter, Trainer, Evaluator Team. Visitor Studies gives students an understanding of the various ‘publics’ and equips them with the tools to evaluate STEM activities developed for specific audiences; Presenting Science provides training and practical experience in developing and presenting STEM activities to a range of audiences. In addition to the taught modules, students may undertake the research for their dissertation at Techniquest.
