Mathcymru Grants Scheme

Maths grants up to the value of £1000 are available to schools for maths projects that meet the criteria of the scheme. The projects should be innovative and demonstrate the following:

  • The project must be a new, engaging, innovative and a teacher led initiative.
  • The project should not duplicate existing or planned initiatives
  • Projects should demonstrate both cost effective and value added aspects
  • The application should include the method of evaluation and how a measurement of the impact of the project will be made
  • Resources arising from the project must be made available to the mathcymru website

Grants may include:

  • Teacher supply costs to release staff for preparation and administration of the project
  • Resources that are intrinsic to the completion of the project and without which the project cannot take place
  • Equipment which does not constitute a major part of the money

Grants will not support:

  • Equipment and resources that form the major part of the application and do not demonstrate intrinsic value to the project
  • Training courses for teachers
  • Travel costs for pupils

Notes on completing the application form

Applications must be on the official form (download a file here), and provide a brief description of the project in less than 300 words.

The application must:

  • Clearly explain how the funding will permit activities to happen that would otherwise not have been possible
  • Explain how the money will be spent by producing a cost analysis and breakdown of the grant spend, and also the total amount of grant money applied up to £1000 maximum available for mathcymru
  • Identify the project aims and the criteria will address
  • Present clear targets and outcomes that will be measurable and evaluated
  • Clearly identify the time frame during which the project will take place (N.B. successful projects must be completed and any funding spent or contractually committed by the end of the financial year)
  • Clearly identify the pupil age range or Key Stage which the project will target
  • Approximate the numbers of pupils who will engage with or be involved in the project
  • Provide evidence of Health and Safety considerations.

Deadline for applications

Applications must be completed, signed and returned to Sian Ashton, Mathcymru, Techniquest, Stuart Street, Cardiff, CF10 5BW by to be confirmed 0.

A project evaluation board will assess all funding bids and will notify successful applicants during the following week.
Please note the total budget available for the grant scheme is limited and some bids that meet all the criteria specified may not receive funding, or may be granted only partial funding.

Final project report

A final project report with photographs must be submitted once the project is completed. Reports should include:

  • A 300 word document with photographs suitable for publication in the mathcymru newsletter and/or website
  • Summary of the aims and an evaluation measured against the criteria specified in the application
  • Assessment of the future of the project and learning outcomes

The report must be completed and sent to Siān Ashton (sian@techniquest.org) within four weeks of completion of the funded activity.
