Mathcymru Grants Scheme guidelines
Maths grants up to the value of £400 are available to schools for maths projects that meet the criteria of the scheme.*
Criteria
Projects should:
- be new, engaging and teacher-led, on the theme of sport
- add to the teaching and learning of maths in your school
- not duplicate existing or planned initiatives
- demonstrate cost effective aspects
- include the method of evaluation and how a measurement of the impact of the project will be made.
Resources arising from the project must be made available to the mathcymru website.
Grants may include:
- Teacher supply costs to release staff for preparation and administration of the project
- Resources that are intrinsic to the completion of the project and without which the project cannot take place
- Equipment, as long as this does not constitute a major part of the money awarded.
Grants will not support:
- Equipment that forms the major part of the application and does not add intrinsic value to the project
- Training courses for teachers
- Travel costs for pupils.
*Please note the total budget available for the grant scheme is limited and some bids that meet all the specified criteria may not receive funding, or may be granted only partial funding.
Notes on completing the application form
Applications must be on the official form (download a file here). Make sure you meet the criteria above, and answer the three questions under the heading ‘Action plan for project’. You may also wish to consider these:
- How many pupils will benefit?
- How does the project add to the teaching and learning of maths in your school?
- How will the funding help with new activities?
- How will you evaluate the project and measure its impact? If you are successful, you will be asked to include this evaluation in your report, so it is important to make sure your outcomes are measurable
- How will you disseminate the project to other staff in your school?
- How could you extend this project at the end of the funding period (we appreciate that this may not be possible without further funding)? If you are successful, you will be asked to include in your report an assessment of the future of the project.
Please note:
- You must show the full costs of the project. Where the project costs more than the maximum mathcymru award, please show how you will fund the additional costs
- If you are successful, you must complete the project and spend the grant award, or contractually commit to spend it, by 31 March 2012. The report must be written by 30 April 2012.
All funded projects will be featured on the mathcymru website.
Deadline for applications
Applications must be completed, signed and returned to Tina Crimp, Techniquest, Stuart Street, Cardiff, CF10 5BW or to tina@techniquest.org by Friday 2 December 2011 at 5pm.
A judging panel will assess all funding bids and will notify all applicants of their decisions by Friday 16 December 2011.
The judges’ decision is final and no discussion will be entered into.
Final project report
Once the project is completed, a final project report must be submitted to Techniquest (to: tina@techniquest.or) no later than Monday 30 April 2012. Reports should include:
- A 300-word outline of the project, with photographs suitable for uploading onto the mathcymru website
- A summary of the aims and an evaluation measured against these aims
- Assessment of the future of the project and learning outcomes.
