Maths Kit

Set up a hands-on mini exhibition in your own school with this suite of maths puzzles and games. The 11 exhibits are easy to use, pack neatly onto a trolley and are designed to be used in any school space.

Mathcymru and Techniquest have been working together to develop the Maths Kit, a collection of desktop challenges designed to investigate a range of maths principles. Each exhibit comes with extensive teacher notes highlighting curriculum links, solutions and further problems, as well as lesson plans for follow-up work in class. Designed for Key Stage 2 students, the Kit works best with the 7 to 11 year-old age group, but may also be used with pupils up to the age of 15 to enhance any maths course, as there is a Key Stage 3 expansion pack also available. All exhibits support the development of mathematical thinking. Other key concepts covered include:

  • Spatial awareness
  • Symmetry and patterns
  • Counting
  • Sequences
  • Problem definition

There are a number of ways in which Maths Kit may work in your school. The most successful model so far has been for secondary schools to use the kit as part of their own promotional material during year 6 transition days. Set it up in the school hall and invite the local feeder primary schools to experience the fun! Several schools have used this to encourage stronger links with the younger age groups with a great deal of success.
