Grants to grow a passion for maths 2009
Are you looking for new ways to brighten up maths lessons? Do you have
ideas that you are keen to try out, but lacking the resources?
Perhaps a Mathcymru grant might provide the answer. The National Assembly
for Wales is again providing funds so that schools can get up to a thousand
pounds for special maths projects.
Wales Maths Week 2008
Wales Maths Week 2008 took place from October 6 to 10 and came with a big challenge – a hula hoop challenge. The theme of the week was “Round and Round”, and pupils of all ages and abilities joined in the activities.
Hula hooping
Children have been playing with hula hoops for thousands of years – but during Wales Maths Week school children across Wales were able to study maths while they played! Pupils of all ages can still try the hula hoop activities - click here for instructions, and activities for pupils of all ages.
Lectures
Leading mathematicians gave a series of lectures as part of Wales Maths Week. These were aimed particularly at post-16 pupils, and featured inspirational speakers who formed and entertained their audiences across Wales.
Competition
Pupils across Wales took part in the mathcymru photo competition. The theme was “Round and Round” which inspired some stunning photographs that can be seen in the mathcymru gallery soon.
