Wales- Wide Outreach Programme
Techniquest is developing a Wales-wide Outreach programme for schools across Wales that complement the successful science education programmes conducted at the Techniquest sites. This Outreach programme aims to be accessible on an equitable basis, regardless of geographic location or social disadvantage. This will be accomplished by setting up ‘hubs’ around Wales from which Techniquest-developed Outreach programme, will be administered and delivered by local Techniquest-trained presenters.
Two of the hubs are already established in Cardiff (Techniquest) and Wrexham (Techniquest Glyndwr) and pilot activities have taken place in north west Wales from Llanberis (Techniquest@Electric Mountain). Plans are in place for a further four hubs to be established in the following locations: Aberystwyth, Merthyr Tydfil, Pembrokeshire and Swansea.
The programme comprises kits, shows, workshops and teacher training that combine to offer an holistic STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) programme for all pupils in Wales.
- Science Kits
- Shows
- Challenge Workshops
- Starlab

Kits are a collection of easy-to-use hands-on activities that are specially designed to motivate and interest pupils of all abilities. They cover important areas of the curriculum and encourage pupils to explore, discover and test.
Each kit is accompanied by comprehensive pre-and-post extension materials and teacher support notes containing curriculum links and associated learning activities. The kit is easy to transport from school to school, and schools are encouraged to share the resource.
Exciting and memorable presenter-led shows can be performed in a school hall or classroom with all the props and relevant materials provided. Every show covers a selected area of the curriculum, and encourages pupils to question ideas and stimulate interest in science and maths. (Insert picture)
Challenge Workshops are designed to stimulate and motivate pupils as well as provide informal support for teachers in their delivery of the National Curriculum. These workshops offer a dynamic range of new challenge activities for pupils, from Forces to Sound, Light to Electricity.
STARLAB is a mobile inflatable planetarium that visits primary schools to support teachers in their delivery of the National Curriculum. Techniquest’s trained staff present a variety of programmes suitable for pupils at all key stages.
