To reduce the chances of a big ol’ festive headache, we’ve compiled a list of unforgettable venues that we love for a party.

Whether you just want a peaceful meal, an elegant affair or somewhere to really let your hair down, there is something for everyone on this list.

The Dead Canary

The Dead Canary

The word’s “don’t judge a book by its cover” could not be more appropriate for Cardiff city centre’s worst kept secret, The Dead Canary.

From the outside, The Dead Canary, looks like a rundown house that has seen better days, but that’s the whole point. After find its signature birdcage outside and ring the bell, you’ll be escorted into a decadent bar oozing with prohibition style, so why not head there for cocktails this Christmas?

This little bar has an extensive cocktail list inspired by Welsh heroes of the past and present. So, whether you choose the ‘Italian Dragon’ cocktail that packs a punch like Joe Calzaghe or the tropical and herbal blend of the ‘Mr Nice’, there’s a cocktail for everyone at The Dead Canary.

For the festive season, its embracing wintry vibes and comfort food for its Christmas offering. With forest fruit bellinis and tempting canapes, it has plenty in store for both small celebrations and large parties with luxurious food platters.

This bar is not only suitable for an intimate group for cocktails but is perfect for larger groups looking to hire a venue for a private party. The first floor can be booked for groups of up to 60 people and catered for if you so choose.

As the bar is supposedly ‘secret’ it can be somewhat hard to find, but we promise it’s worth it.

Chapel 1877

Chapel 1877

Wanting to find a venue that properly embodies the spirit of Christmas? Then Chapel 1877 is ideal for you and your party.

This historic structure, along with many other chapels, was built following the industrial revolution to help cope with the growing population of Christians in Cardiff. However, the chapel closed following a decline in membership after the Second World War.

In 2008, it was reopened as a bar and restaurant and has been a popular venue to eat and drink at ever since.

The chapel still has stunning 19th Century gothic features like black and red brickwork, high ceiling arches and glittering crystal chandeliers, making it visually breath-taking. If you’ve got Instagram in mind (who hasn’t?), it would make for truly unique Christmas party photos.

With its Lounge bar and Gallery restaurant, this venue is an ideal setting for a memorable meal with family, friends and colleagues to start your winter festivities.

All money made from this restaurant is put towards rehabilitating inmates and helping them to find work following their release from prison.
