Frequently Asked Questions

General visits

  1. Will the retro exhibits still be there when I visit Techniquest?
Yes! Not only have we introduced over 50 brand new exhibits, but all of our favourite retro exhibits will remain for you to enjoy at your next visit.
  2. Will the Planetarium be open when I visit?
Unfortunately, due to the latest Government public health guidance, we are unable to host any shows within our Planetarium at this time. We will share information as soon as possible when this changes.
  3. Why aren’t you currently running live shows in your Science Theatre?
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), public health guidelines must be followed for the protection of our staff and our visitors. Our live shows are currently not available, but we hope to bring them back very soon. Please keep an eye on our website and social media channels for the most up-to-date information.
  4. What are your new exhibits like?
We have 53 brand-new exhibits at Techniquest that span over five key themes: Biomedical Science, Chemistry, Space, Environment and World Issues.
  5. I’m still a bit unsure about visiting due to the global outbreak of COVID-19. What measures do you have in place?
We have implemented new safety measures for all our staff and visitors to follow when in Techniquest. A full list of what to expect will be given to you prior to arriving (via email) and you will be reminded once you arrive by our staff and through visible signage throughout our centre. A breakdown of these will be available here.
  6. Why have I got to pre-book my tickets?
In line with the current public health guidelines, pre-booking will be essential so we can guarantee a safe amount of visitors in at any one time.
  7. What will happen if I turn up without a pre-booked ticket?
You will be asked to return at a later date/time once you have pre-booked a ticket.
  8. Why are pre-booked tickets for an allocated time period?
This is to ensure that ticket holders have enough time to enjoy all of our exhibits and allow for deep cleaning to happen before the next group of visitors arrive.
  9. I’m an Annual Pass holder, what are my rights?
All up-to-date information regarding our Annual Pass can be found over on our dedicated page.
  10. Can anyone use your new exhibits?
Yes! Techniquest is for everyone. However, due to the nature of some exhibits, they may have a health warning attached to them so please do check before using them.
  11. Will your staff be wearing PPE?
Yes, our staff will be wearing the appropriate coverings based on the current public health guidelines
  12. Do I have to wear a mask when visiting?
Under new Welsh Government law in relation to indoor spaces, it is now mandatory to wear a face covering when visiting Techniquest unless you are exempt.

If you arrive for a pre-booked session without a face covering and you are not exempt from wearing one, you will be required to purchase a face mask from Techniquest before you will be admitted into the exhibition.

Please read the Welsh Government guidance for further information.

  13. When will your special events such as Home Educator days and Toddler Days be running?
These special events will resume when it is safe to do so. We hope to share more information soon.
  14. I’m in a wheelchair, can I access the new exhibits?
Yes, we have a lift available towards the back of our centre that will take you to our second floor. If you are unsure where to find it, please ask a member of staff who will be more than happy to show you where the lift is allocated.
  15. I’m a teacher, can I bring my class to Techniquest for a school trip?
Yes, classes who are ‘bubbled up’ together under the current public health guidance are more than welcome to visit us on a school trip. However, please be aware that this will be for use of the exhibition floor only and you will not currently have access to any live shows in our Science Theatre or Planetarium. Please contact us to check availability.
  16. Can I still make a donation?
Yes! We are an educational charity and appreciate any donation our visitors can give. To donate, please visit here.
  17. Why is there a booking fee when I pre-book my tickets online?
In line with the current public health guidance, each visitor will be given a stylus to use when interacting with our new exhibits. The booking fee will help cover these costs for the time being and ensure we can minimise direct hands-on contact. For more information on our current safety measures in place, please click here.
