Entrepreneur joins Techniquest as its latest trustee

October 4, 2017

Techniquest, the educational charity, has welcomed a new trustee to its board.

Lee Sharma, CEO of Simply Do Ideas, has been appointed to the board of trustees at the science discovery centre based in Cardiff Bay.

In his new role, Lee will work alongside the board of seven trustees, who are responsible for setting the strategic direction of the charity, whilst delegating day-to-day responsibility and operational activity to the leadership team.

An entrepreneur at heart, Lee began his journey into business with his own start-up recruitment company. In three years, he rapidly grew the business to include clients such as Legal & General, Panasonic and KPMG ultimately resulting in a successful exit.

In 2002, Lee went from being a start-up to helping start-ups through two Welsh Government initiatives. After moving into education achieving a PGCE and Masters in Entrepreneurship, in 2015, he became CEO of education technology company, Simply Do Ideas.

On his appointment to Techniquest, Mr Sharma said: “As the UK’s longest-established science centre, Techniquest continues to provide a unique range of learning experiences for young people. The organisation is heading into a very exciting phase aiming to create a range of new experiences for a wider audience.

“It is an honour to be involved with such an innovative educational charity at such an important time. I’m very much looking forward to seeing the organisation’s innovative plans and continuing to inspire generations to come.”

The latest in a string of positive news for Techniquest, the appointment of its new trustee comes on the back of the high-profile appointment of Gareth McTiffin to take the lead as Conference and Events Development Manager as it embarks on a journey to diversify revenue streams.

Lesley Kirkpatrick, CEO at Techniquest, said: “We have so many exciting plans for the future to develop Techniquest and we need to ensure we have the right expertise on our board to guide us through this journey.

“Lee is a talented leader, full of ideas and creativity and his enterprise and commercial experience, as well as his personal network, will add real value to our charity.

“We’re delighted to welcome him to Techniquest. His entrepreneurial expertise will be an invaluable asset to our board and we’re looking forward to hearing his input and new ideas.”
