Techniquest

Set on the waterfront in the heart of Cardiff Bay, Techniquest has over 100 hands-on exhibits that let you experience science, technology, engineering and maths in a fun and exciting way.

One of Wales’ most popular all-weather family attractions, Techniquest now caters for children and adults of all ages. As you enter, you’ll discover the Science Capital, which has five different zones that focus on space, the environment, chemistry, world issues and biomedical science.

Alongside these, you’ll find a collection of original, classic Techniquest exhibits, on the Retro side of the building. This is a great space to head to if you’ve younger children in your party: the water area, giant piano and ant-watching are particular favourites.

Children under 7 can let their imaginations run wild in the Mini Metro Play Zone that’s up on the first floor: just head up the stairs near the picnic area.

And that’s not all. There are live science shows in the auditorium; a super-snug 360° Planetarium and the KLA Lab to experience workshops in throughout the year. Check out the what’s on calendar to see what’s running on the date you plan to visit, and choose to ‘add on’ that experience when you book your general admission tickets.

Whatever your age, you can discover a world of fascinating facts and explore science to your heart’s content through mind-boggling machines, curious contraptions, puzzles and digital gateways galore.

Great for a family day out, having fun with friends, educating the next generation or discovering science in later life — there’s plenty for curious minds and busy hands to get stuck into. Take time to explore the floor and find out which exhibits suit you best.

It’s completely up to you how much science-based knowledge you pick up while you’re here. Add an xTag to your trip if you want to dive deeper into different science topics when you get home — and keep it somewhere safe so you can use it again on future visits.

Or if you just want a fun time out with the kids to make lasting memories together, that’s fine too. We highly recommend the Hurricane experience and the ginormous silver slide!

Our East Terrace now houses a sensory garden too, so you can explore a variety of plants through sight, scent and touch: or just take a pew and enjoy the views across the water while you take a break from mind-stretching puzzles for a while.

Millions of people have loved spending time at Techniquest over the years and now you’ll never be too old for a visit. With the Science Capital extension, the space has both grown and ‘grown up’ at the same time. Technology old and new helps to unpack science for every generation; getting hands-on and having fun really is the best way of discovering and remembering new things.

If you’re a first time visitor and you’re short on time, we’ve a 3D Tour and a handy guide here that should help you head to some highlights:
