Techniquest receives £12,000 inheritance funds from ‘generous’ family

July 12, 2017

Techniquest is set to benefit from £12,000 in inheritance funding thanks to three “extremely generous” members of the same family.

The leading scientific educational charity is set to receive the contribution this week, following a donation from the estate of the late Clifford Raymond Pike.

Mr Pike had funds directed to the scientific discovery centre following his death, after his estate trustees selected it as a worthy cause.

However, the donated money did not just originate from him, with funding also filtered into his estate through his late wife Mary’s inheritance.

As the couple did not have any children, and her brother Lawrence Granville Davies had died months earlier, Techniquest was selected as an appropriate cause all three would have “wholeheartedly supported”.

Chief executive officer of the educational charity Lesley Kirkpatrick, said this “extremely generous” gift would allow an even greater number of young people to access STEM educational learning.

She said: “We are extremely grateful to the estate of Mr and Mrs Pike and Mr Davies for this wonderful donation.

“This generous funding will enable so many young people across Wales to get access to engaging STEM enrichment activities at our Cardiff Bay centre, that they otherwise might not get.

“It will be used for the refurbishment of our planetarium, allowing us to continue to stand out as an iconic beacon in Cardiff Bay.

“As an educational charity we are entirely reliant on the goodwill and generosity of people such as this in order to continue providing interactive scientific education.

“We are always grateful to our loyal visitors and supporters for enabling us to carry on this work.”
