If you’re familiar with Techniquest, you’ll already know about all the amazing exhibits we have spread across two floors — and now there’s even more to explore!

Upstairs on the second floor, our new extension is now welcoming families to take some time away from the hustle and bustle of the main exhibition areas, and get curious and creative together in our Create & Shape space.

With Spirographs, LEGO, origami, cardboard creations and more, it’s a place where families can enjoy spending quality time together, surrounded by inspiration and colour.

Sue Wardle, CEO of Techniquest said: “When we first opened up this space last year, we piloted a few different creative stations in it, to see how they were received by visitors — and we were bowled over by how positive the response was. They loved being able to relax in a slightly quieter area, learning, playing and getting creative together.

“So, we’ve adapted some of those ‘play’-stations based on feedback we received, and are now launching the finished version of our Create & Shape space, for all our visitors to enjoy. And please, keep telling us what you like or don’t like about the time you spend with us, as it all feeds in to the work we do to keep developing and improving the visitor experience.”

To find the Create & Shape zone, just follow the signs on the ground floor towards the toilets, and then take the stairs near the Picnic Area to the second floor. If you prefer to use the lift, please take the passenger lift to the first floor (you’ll find this in the Human Body Zone, near the giant teeth!) then cross the floor to the Mini Metro Play Zone where you’ll then find the lift up to the second floor (near the top of the stairs).

The Create & Shape zone has been made possible through funding from the following organisations:

Bradbury Foundation, Moondance Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation, Foyle Foundation, and the UK Government through the Shared Prosperity Fund.
