Every year, the wonder of space exploration is celebrated across the world for World Space Week. Originally set up by the United Nations, it aims to celebrate ‘the continuations of space science and technology to the betterment of the human condition.’
For its 2017 theme, World Space Week is encouraging people to celebrate the past and future of space exploration with ‘Exploring new worlds in space’. While we don’t have a rocket than can fly you straight into the cosmos, we have plenty to inspire your inner space explorer this World Space Week.
Stargaze and join us on our Search for Life in the Planetarium
If you’ve already visited our planetarium, you’ll know that we create and deliver our very own planetarium shows. Follow the story of Perseus and Pegasus (great for the little ones) or come and Search for Life, in an incredible show where we look back at how our tiny blue dot in the solar system began. Travel back in time, and explore how we can use this knowledge to pursue the discovery of stars, planets and life in our solar system.
Dress up, virtual reality style…
Remember when you were little and wanted to be an astronaut? Well now you can, with our virtual reality changing room, so get practising your Buzz Lightyear impressions and try a space suit on for size.

Do you have what it takes to be an astronaut? Inspired by Tim Peake’s mission to the International Space Station, you can experience what it takes to travel into space with our Robotic Arm, maybe one day you’ll give Tim Peake a run for his money!
Get inside an (almost) life size Lego space shuttle
If you haven’t already heard, Techniquest is now the home of a replica shuttle made entirely of 160,000 blocks of LEGO. Come and get a sense of how Tim Peake flew to space and take a look at what’s inside (It’s also great for a selfie, not that we’ve been practicing or anything…)
