On Wednesday 19 June, we were joined by Welsh high school students — currently studying their A Levels — who have been offered a place in Destination STEM’s educational enrichment programme.
Designed to provide opportunities for promising young minds to pursue careers in STEM fields, those selected will get the chance to work alongside professionals in academia and industry to support their research projects, which will be presented to their peers at an awards ceremony later in the year.
This summer, the students will be hosted in top-ranked Welsh universities, the ONS, Wardell Armstrong, DSIT, STEM Untapped and of course, here on home turf at Techniquest.
More than 70 students will set off on their STEM journeys into the unknown over the summer period. They will embark on their explorations to identify skills and career opportunities available and begin work on their exciting mini-research projects.
In memory of our late Chair of the Board, Steve Bowden, one outstanding student with the best post-placement assignment will win a £1000 award.
The induction event was presented by Head of Education Andrea Meyrick and Education Officer Jenny Morris, while Julia Krokosz — last year’s recipient of the Steve Bowden Award — returned to share her experience with the programme. The students left the event knowing everything about what to expect next and were excited to begin this amazing experience.
This year’s awards ceremony will be held on October 2 — we can’t wait to see what the students present!
